Applications will be accepted from: All Persons Interested Division/ Section: Houston Airport System – Insourced Maintenance Workdays & Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 5am to 1:30pm *(Subject To Change) PURPOSE OF DIVISION The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, Insource Maintenance Services, business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The purpose of the Carpenter, Insourced Maintenance Services, is to ensure that the facilities, equipment, structures and utilities are constructed, installed, and maintained in a manner commensurate with maximizing value to our customers. Functions are performed in a manner which applies the most innovation and appropriate engineering and financial principles within the three HAS airports. "Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date." The Carpenter duties will include but are not limited to:• Coordinates and performs general carpentry activities such as design, construction, installation, repair and renovation of furnishings, cabinetry, doors, windows, containers, crates, flooring, building additions, panels, glass, etc. • Reviews and implements work orders. • Inspects work sites to determine materials, equipment, and estimated costs for projects. • Measures and calculates projects to ensure accuracy of design. • Maintains clean and safe work environment. WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of times. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specialized training principles, procedures, practices, routines OR techniques in a specific area OR trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education OR training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two years of experience in carpentry are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving. • Preference will be given to applicants with experience working as a carpenter utilizing hand/power tools, and build/repair of areas in a commercial, industrial or facilities operation setting, performing preventative maintenance, utilizing a maintenance management system, customer service skills, and team-oriented workplace. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
